Pursuit of Hoppiness: Calabogie Brewing Company to Open in Kanata North

If there’s one thing that Kanata loves as much as tech, it’s beer. With no shortage of great craft breweries in Kanata North, Calabogie Brewing Company will soon join the list of must-visit stops on your next brewery tour at their new 105 Schneider Road location. While they’ve yet to lock down a date, General Manager, Tom Leger says that they hope to open up shop before the snow melts.

“There’s still a few final steps to take before we open,” says Leger. “But we’re hoping to get things off the ground soon enough.”

Their Calabogie, ON location opened in 2015, and it wasn’t long before they recognized a demand for easier access to their specialty and seasonal beers.

“There’s been a lot of anticipation,” says Calabogie Sales and Events Coordinator, Lindsey Osborne. “So many people who want to try our beer. We have beers available in the LCBO and the Beer Store, but to be able to have all of the seasonals and specialty beers in a space that’s more convenient for people in Ottawa is really exciting.”

Calabogie’s atmosphere is warm and inviting with an open-concept tap room, featuring high tables and a sunny view of the tech park. Leger says that guests will also have the option to enjoy a pint on their spacious patio once the warm weather (finally) hits.

“We’re really excited to have a tap room in this community,” says Calabogie Head Brewer, Scott Loftus. “We’ve established ourselves at our Calabogie location, which is fantastic, but this is a whole new thing.”

While Calabogie is certainly within crawling distance to a handful of other local breweries, Osborne says there’s room for everyone in the park.

“We look at it as an advantage,” says Osborne. “If people are going to visit Big Rig or Small Pony, they’ll come see us too. It becomes like a mini brewery district.”

Getting down the good stuff, the staff had some great recommendations for those hoping to pop in for some tap room brews. Featured on the list of year-round beers are Bogie, Grassy Bay, Hopped on Pils, K & P Ale, Nitro Brown Cow, and their flagship Kolsch-Style Front Porch.

Tom’ pick: “You can never go wrong with Front Porch. It’s such an easy-drinking beer, and it’s a real crowd-pleaser.”

Lindsey’s pick: “Our Highlander Nut Brown seasonal is delicious for the cooler months. In the summertime, we offer a Watermelon Gose, which is equally delicious, and everyone inevitably falls in love with during festival season.”

Scott’s pick: “The Bogie is our main IPA – it’s a cream IPA, but it has some great hoppiness and body to it.”

With winter now in full-swing, we’re eager to warm up with a pint at Kanata North’s newest local brewery. Stay tuned as Calabogie unveils more details about their official launch.
